Overcoming "Weather-related Diseases" with Mushin Dereki™ - New Self-Care to Protect Your Body

I feel tired, unmotivated, and heavy-headed today."

Don't days like this often come around the change of seasons, during the rainy season, or around typhoons?

That may be a "weather-related disease".

What is a weather-related disease?

Weather-related illness (weather pain) is a general term for physical problems caused by changes in air pressure, temperature, and humidity.
The main symptoms are headache, lethargy, drowsiness, and dizziness.
Many people today are secretly suffering from these ailments, but find it difficult to talk to anyone about them.

The latest medical science has found that one of the causes is that weather changes disrupt the autonomic nervous system and reduce blood flow to the brain and throughout the body.

Why does Busshin Dekiryoku™ work?

Bushin Dereki™ is a unique physical method that combines the physical principles of Aikido, deep breathing, and the sense of "ma" (pause).

Why does this method help improve weather-related diseases?
There are three points.

1. balance the autonomic nervous system

Busshin Dereki™ emphasizes "relaxing," moving in a relaxed manner, and deepening the breath.
These work to make the parasympathetic nervous system dominant and gently reset the autonomic nervous system, which is disturbed by changes in atmospheric pressure.

Many national and international medical papers have shown that yoga and meditation have similar effects.
(e.g., "Autonomic Nervous System and Exercise Therapy," Journal of the Japanese Autonomic Society)

2. promote blood flow throughout the body

The movement of BUSHIN-DEREKI™, which is "moving without effort" and "connecting movement with breathing,"
avoids excessive muscle tension and facilitates the delivery of blood flow to all parts of the body.
As a result, you will feel less "sluggishness" and "heaviness in the head.

3. reset the mind with "pause" and "spatial awareness

In Busshin-Deriki™ practice, we focus on the "here and now" and carefully sense the state of our body and space.
This is an element that is also associated with modern "mindfulness," and is effective in resetting feelings of depression and anxiety.

Examples of quick and easy self-care

For example, try this basic work of Busshin Dereki™.

Work to relax the shoulders by feeling the breath.

  1. Sit in a chair and straighten your back.
  2. Breathe in slowly through the nose and shrug shoulders lightly
  3. Stoop your shoulders with a long exhale from your mouth.
  4. Repeat this 3-5 times
→ Shoulders and neck will loosen up and blood flow will circulate to the head and throughout the body

Work on how to stand with a sense of "ma" (pause)

  1. Stand up straight and feel the floor with the soles of both feet.
  2. Gently relax your entire body while imagining the "space between" yourself and the space.
  3. Exhale slowly and let gravity take over.
  4. Just "stand" quietly for a minute or so.
→ This will quiet your thoughts and help calm your mind and body.

Finally.

Meteorological illnesses are never "out of the mind" or "laziness".
Both the body and the mind respond delicately to weather and seasonal changes.

If you have been feeling "heavy" or "unmotivated" lately, try
to reset your body and mind with the gentle movements and breathing of Busshin Dereki™.

Listen to your body--
This will be the first step to a day-to-day life that is uniquely you.
